Lofrans Royal Manual Horizontal Windlass
I’ll be installing this used Lofran’s horizontal windlass on my Bayfield 29. Got in on eBay for $450. It’s pretty much in “like new” condition. A new one goes for around $1,400. I’ll be fabricating a teak block to mount it, angling the block slightly back to get the correct angle on the anchor chain. Ideally you want a straight entry from the anchor to the windlass gears. I have 2 anchors up front so I’m going to split the difference. It won’t be more than a 10 ° entry angle for either hook.
I’ve order a 12″ x 12″ x 1/4″ stainless steel plate to act as a backing plate on the installation. I’ll be cutting it down to 7″ x 12″ to make the fit better.
